Managing Networks

This article provides the instructions to add, edit, and manage your networks within the Networks extension.

Prerequisites

The Portal Administrator or Network Administrator role.

Create a Network

  1. In the Networks extension, select the parent network, and click New Network.

    Note

A new network can be added to any existing node.

  2. Enter the name of the network.

  3. Click the edit icon to enter the description of the network.

Note

You can set a Play or Signs channel as the default channel. However, you must create the channel in the same network or move an existing channel to the network before you can set it as the default channel. Please refer to the Assigning a Default Channel to a Network article to assign a default channel.

Edit a Network

  1. Select the desired network, and click the edit icons to edit the Name or Description of the network.

  2. In the Default Channel section, click the Change link to edit the default channel for that network. In the Default Channel dialog box, select the desired channel, and click OK.

  3. In the Parent Network section, click the Change link to move the network to another parent network. In the Parent Network dialog box, select the desired network, and click OK.

Add Network Properties

Network properties are typically non-visual settings that include screen burn time, device credentials, or software update configurations. Network properties listed and defined at each level of the network will be applied to all media player devices within the network as well as any of its sub-networks.

  1. Select the desired network, and click the Properties tab.

  2. Click the New Property button to add a new network property for this network node. You should see a new row appear that allows you to enter the Property and Value of this entry. When finished, click the Save icon.

    Note

    • You can also edit any existing property by clicking the property row.
    • All devices in this network and its sub-networks will inherit these properties.

Delete a Network

  1. From the Networks tab, select the desired network, and click the Delete Network link.

    Warning

You may select a network which contains sub-networks. Upon deleting a parent network, all sub-networks and related assets (user groups, users, media assets, applications) will also be deleted from the system.

  2. A confirmation window is displayed to warn you of any additional sub-network levels and associated content or assets that will also be removed from the system as a result of deleting this network. Click OK when you are ready to proceed.

  3. Another confirmation dialog should appear and prompt you to enter your account password in order to proceed with deleting the network. Click Confirm once you have entered your password to finish removing the network from the system.
