Windows Server 2012 Configuration

A server running Windows Server 2012 R2 is one of the operating system options required as the foundation for Appspace. To ensure maximum compatibility, we highly recommend that there should be no existing applications or third-party services installed.

The instructions provided describe how to configure and prepare the Windows server for the installation of Appspace.

  1. Open Server Manager from the Windows Start menu or the taskbar.

  2. Select ‘Add roles and features’ from the WELCOME TO SERVER MANAGER screen. You may alternatively also click the ‘Add Roles and Features’ link from the Manage drop-down menu.

  3. Click Next in the ‘Before you begin’ window.

  4. Select the ‘Role-based or feature-based installation’ option and click Next in the ‘Select installation type’ window.

  5. Select the appropriate server from the Server Pool and click Next in the ‘Select destination server’ window.

  6. Select Web Server (IIS). Click Add Features when prompted for confirmation and click Next in the ‘Select server roles’ window.

  7. Select all options available under ‘.NET Framework 3.5 Features’ as well as ‘.Net Framework 4.5 Features’ and click Next in the ‘Select features’ window.

  8. Click Next in the ‘Web Server Role (IIS)’ window.

  9. Click Next in the ‘Select role services’ window (leaving all default selections).

  10. Click Install in the ‘Confirm installation selections’ window.

Important: You may encounter a warning message at the top of the window, notifying the need to locate missing source files for installation. These are actually the .NET Framework 3.5 files that were not included by default during the Windows server installation. Windows will attempt to locate the installation disc to copy the files, or access the Microsoft site to download them using the Windows Update service. Ensure that you have the Windows Server 2012 installation disc on-hand to copy the necessary files to proceed with the installation (or have full access to the Internet to download the files to be installed). If these files are not located or downloaded, the installation will fail to complete.

  11. Wait for the installation to complete. This could take up to several minutes. Click Close once the installation has completed.

  12. Perform a manual restart of your Windows server. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL and select the Restart option.

You have completed the Windows Server 2012 R2 configuration. Microsoft .NET version 3.5 and 4.5 are both installed as server roles during the installation of IIS. Thus you may skip the Microsoft .NET Framework Installation article and proceed directly to Visual C++ Installation.
