Preparing Video Wall Hardware
Introduction
The second task in implementing a video wall solution (after creating a vdieo wall application) is hardware preparation. The dynamic nature of video wall setups means that there is a wide array of variables to consider when preparing the hardware required for this solution, tailored to a specific clients needs and budget specifications.
However, the first and crucial requirement is for the video wall to be powered by a hardware-capable Windows PC setup, with emphasis on:
- A powerful CPU to ensure high-speed, smooth processing of data (multi-core / server processor).
- A high-end graphics card with multiple video outputs to accommodate the multi-display feature and better management of high definition media.
Hardware Setup 1 (Single, six-output GPU)
The following hardware setup utilizes one MediaVue SureVue D6 to power six LCD panels, forming the 3×2 video wall. Listed below are the standard components for the MediaVue SureVue D6 player.
Item | Description |
---|---|
Central Processing Unit (CPU) | 3.5Ghz Quad Core APU |
Chipset | AMD A88 |
Memory | 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM |
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) | AMD Radeon HD 7750 with 2GB VDDR5 |
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) | 60GB Enterprise Grade SSD |
Operating System (OS) | Windows Embedded Standard 7 |
Power Usage | 65w average load, 100w max |
Note
This setup is based on the MediaVue SureVue D6. For more info, refer to the MediaVue SureVue D6 Product Sheet (http://mediavuesystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/D6_Product_Sheet.pdf).
Additional Items:
- 6x mini DisplayPort–to-DVI adapter cables

Hardware Setup 2 (Single, dual-output GPU with DVI splitters)
The following hardware setup utilises two DVI outputs from the dedicated graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 760) into two Matrox TripleHead2Go DVI splitters to power six LCD panels, forming the 3×2 video wall.
Item | Description | Additional Notes |
---|---|---|
Central Processing Unit (CPU) | Intel Xeon E5-2620, 2.4 GHz | Or AMD equivalent, preferably server grade processors for increased stability |
Memory | 6GB DDR3 RAM | None |
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) | Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 with 2GB GDDR5 Memory | Or any other GPU with 2 DVI outputs with at least 2 GB dedicated on-board memory. Preferably GDDR5 memory for faster read/write speeds |
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) | 500GB SATA, 7200 RPM | None |
Operating System (OS) | Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, Windows 8 | 64-bit architecture fully utilizes all 6GB of RAM where 32-bit only utilises up to 3GB |
Additional items:
- 2x DVI splitters (Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition)
- 2x USB Charger Cable (included in the Matrox TripleHead2Go)
- 2x DVI-I (Dual link) Cable (included in the Matrox TripleHead2Go)
- 6x DVI-D (Single link) Cable (variable lengths for connection to the individual displays)
- 6x 1080p High Definition LCD Panels.
