Content
A content is a generic term to refer to media or data that can be shared via the Appspace platform. Examples of content are images, videos, audio, cards, signs, live video streams, and web or dynamic data.
The following are key terminology frequently used and referenced with Appspace:
Account is a common term which refers to an organizations area of operation within the Appspace platform. Account may also be used in reference to an organization’s registration with an Appspace (the Company) CRM system.
An acronym for ‘Application Programming Interface’, API refers to the set of operations, protocols, and requirements that govern how applications communicate with Appspace.
Appspace is both the company name and also the server side software that contains the features and functionalities for managing content, devices, and users, as well as publishing content to channels. You may also hear the software referred to as the Appspace platform or the Appspace console.
The Appspace App is the device side software that is optimized for specific types of operating environments and handles content playback.
Appspace credits are units of time purchased and redeemed by customers or partners with the Appspace Professional Services team. These may include series such as custom content development, software installation, or training.
An Appspace ID is a unique reference used to track a user, or a device registered to an Appspace account.
An acronym for ‘Client Access Licenses’, CAL refers to a perpetual entitlement to connect a media player to an Appspace account. NOTE: CALs are a legacy offering.
Channels is a feature that allows you to create, organize, and publish content as playlists, live streams, or an advanced channel with scheduling and custom layouts. Channels is displayed in interactive mode via the Appspace App.
A channel group is a categorization of one or more channels that makes it easier for a user to organize content.
A client can represent one half a server-client hardware or software solution. Client can mean the physical device or the software (i.e. the Appspace App) that runs on the device.

A device is a piece of hardware that runs the Appspace App to access content. NOTE: Also see Managed Device.
A device task is a request to action something on a device, such as get logs, reboot, and update firmware.
An industry term to represent the content package you can create in Appspace, but sometimes it also refers to the TV that is playing an advanced channel. NOTE: Also see, sign.
A driver is a layer of code in the Appspace App to enable it to work with specific operating systems or devices.
An acronym for ‘End User Agreement’, EUA refers to the legal agreement that an end user agrees to abide by in order to use Appspace.
A layout is a structure or wireframe in which text, images, videos and other content can be placed.
The library in the Appspace console is where content is uploaded, stored, managed and in some cases created.
A license key is a string code that authorizes Appspace software to operate in an on-premises environment.
A live video stream is a content type that can be accessed as a channel through the Appspace App or through a media zone in a sign layout.
A managed device is a device, such as a media player, that is registered with Appspace that can be administered using device tasks through the Appspace console.
Media is a generic term to refer to a specific type of content. These are often standalone files such as images, video, audio, and cards.
A media player is a hardware device that is defined by its manufacturer as a media player.
A mobile device is a term to categorize a smartphone or a tablet.
Multi-tenancy is a function of the Appspace platform that allows the creation of multiple subordinate accounts within an on-premises or private cloud environment.
A network is an administrator-defined partition of media players within an Appspace account. Typically the network tree follows an organization’s known structure such as geographical locations.
An On-Premises deployment is a type of deployment where the Appspace platform is installed on a physical or virtual server within a customer’s infrastructure.
Overage fees refer to the billable charges accrued above any entitlement included within a subscription. These typically apply to such entitlements as Appspace IDs, storage, and bandwidth.
A playlist is an organization of content to be played in a linear or scheduled fashion. Playlist can be single channel or exist within a sign.
A private cloud is an option where a dedicated deployment of the Appspace platform is hosted and managed by Appspace operational teams.
A public cloud is an option where an organization’s account is hosted on a multi-tenanted Appspace server.
The renewal date references the expiration date of a service, e.g. an Omni subscription.
Resource allocation refers to one or more entitlements included within a subscription or product, e.g. Appspace IDs, storage, and bandwidth.
A sign is a collection of content placed into one or more pre-defined or customizable layouts, that can be displayed linearly or at a pre-determined schedule on a device. A sign is typically known as an advanced channel in Appspace 7.0 and later.
NOTE: Prior to Appspace 6.0, a sign was sometimes known as an application or app.
SLA, the acronym of ‘Service Level Agreement’, refers to the agreed upon legal service contract that defines the scope, quality, and responsibilities of both the customer and service provider.
A subscription is a means by which products or services can be offered to an organization on a recurring basis.
A template represents the high-level nature of either a sign or a card (e.g. announcement card). A template may have one or more layouts as part of it, and as such they can also be themed.
The Terms of Service are rules which one must agree to abide by, in order to use a product or service. These terms can be subject to change at any time.
Themes can apply to both cards and the Appspace App. These are the brand or styling aspects applied to a layout.
Uptime refers to the overall accessible duration and status of a particular device, server, or system service.
A user is a person who either accesses the Appspace console and/or content through the Appspace App.
A user group is a collection of users that can access either the Appspace console and/or the Appspace App. User groups are often a streamlined way of providing permissions to multiple users without having to configure them individually.
Widget is a functional component when building an advanced channel that allows a user to manage media or data.
