Managing Remote Control Profiles

Introduction

This article primarily focuses on the steps to add, remove, edit, and manage remote control profiles to be utilized with the Play extension. The following steps and process takes place within the Configuration tab of the Play extension. Out of the box, the Play extension provides support for two remote controls:

  • Cisco Digital Media Player (DMP) Remote Control
  • Apple TV Remote Control

Adding Remote Control Profiles

Step 1

From the Play extension, select the Configuration tab and select the Remote Controls sub-tab. Click the + button.


Step 2

Provide a Name to be used in identifying this remote control. Proceed to complete the Mappings section as fully as possible before clicking the Save button at the bottom to finish adding the remote control profile.

Note

The remote control mapping scan codes are typically obtained from the manufacturer’s datasheets and product documentation.


Editing Remote Control Profiles

Step 1

On the Remote Controls sub-tab, select the name link of the remote control profile to be edited.


Step 2

Make the desired changes to the relevant section(s) of the Remote Control Settings. When finished, click on the Save button to confirm your changes. The updated information will now be reflected in the Remote Control Settings page.



Exporting Remote Control Profiles

Step 1

On the Remote Controls sub-tab, select the remote control profile to be exported by clicking along the row – the entire row should appear highlighted. Click on the Export Profile button to export the profile as a RCPKG file (which can be imported).


Importing Remote Control Profiles

Step 1

On the Remote Controls sub-tab, click on the Import Profile button.


Step 2

Click the folder button to browse and select the remote control profile to be imported. Once you have the file selected, click Import.


Step 3

You should be presented with the settings page for the remote control profile where you will have the chance to edit the fields (Name and Scan Codes) of this newly imported remote control profile. When finished, click the Save button to complete the import process.



Deleting Remote Control Profiles

Step 1

On the Remote Controls sub-tab, find and check the box next to the remote control profile to be removed. Click on the trash bin button.


Step 2

Click OK to confirm your action. The remote control profile will no longer be displayed in the Remote Control list.
