Configuring BrightSign for Play

This article provides the instructions to configure and register Cisco BrightSign devices to be used in Play.

Prerequisites

  • A Cisco StadiumVision SV-4K BrightSign media player.
  • An IR receiver bundled with Cisco BrightSign.
  • An SD Card.
  • USB keyboard for activation.
  • An IR remote control for registration (supported by Play). Check the Remote Control Guide.
  • An active Internet connection.

Configuring BrightSign

Follow the instructions below to setup the BrightSign media player:

  1. Download the autorun.zip compressed file here.

  2. Uncompress the ZIP file and save the autorun.brs file to a desired folder.

  3. To configure the autorun.brs file, open the file with a text editor (vi editor or a notepad) on Windows.

    Warning

Opening the file with TextEdit on a Mac OS X may corrupt the file.

  4. Edit the ‘appspacePlayUrl$’ property in the file to reflect the Play registration URL according to your Appspace deployment type:

    • Cloud Deployments:

    • On-Premise Deployments:

      • https://{appspace-server-domain}/play/d

    Example:

    appspacePlayUrl$ = "http://play.appspace.com/d"

    Note

Optional: You can provide a NTP server IP address in the autorun.brs file by editing the ‘setTimeServer(“”)’ property.

  5. Save the changes, and copy the autorun.brs file into an SD card.

  6. Insert the SD card into the BrightSign device, and connect the player to a display screen.

  7. Ensure the network connectivity is active and switch on the BrightSign device. Wait for the device to boot-up and display the ‘Device registration’ page.

    Note

The BrightSign device may need to be restarted a couple of times if the device registration page does not show up.

  8. Proceed to register the BrightSign device using an Appspace registered user account with Network Manager privileges. Follow the instructions from Steps 2 to 8 in the Registering a Web Client as a Device section.

  9. You may disconnect the keyboard, and use the IR remote control to operate Play.
