The RSS card lets businesses quickly and easily display live RSS feeds right into your office space, as its a great tool to keep teams informed on the latest industry trends, financial markets, or breaking news, allowing them to make much better well-informed decisions.
The RSS card is an Appspace supported card, which is officially created and periodically updated by Appspace with new templates and features.

Existing RSS card templates (prior to this release) which were categorized as Community Cards will be removed from the Appspace console.
The base RSS card allows you to add authenticated, or unauthenticated RSS feeds that are available over the internet, or from a private internal network, just as long as the RSS feeds are in the following RSS formats:
- RSS 1.0
- RSS 2.0,
- mRSS
- Atom 1.0.
Apart from the basic card customizations, the following customizations are available for the RSS card:
- Display RSS feed summary and media.
- Configure RSS media aspect ratio.
- Disable low resolution media on RSS feeds.
- Upload a custom font. NoteTo enable custom font, it has to be unlocked at the card theme. Please follow the Create Card Themes instructions in the Customize Appspace Cards Theme article to do this.
- Configure text color.
- Configure feed duration.
- Configure date format.
- Upload custom logo.
- Enable transitions between RSS feeds.
- Configure transition effects and colors.
This article provides instructions on how to create, configure, and customize the RSS card to be displayed.
What’s in this article:
Prerequisites
- Cards are only supported on devices with the Appspace App. Legacy devices are not supported.
- Ensure your device is compatible. Refer to Compatible Appspace Cards.
- Account Owner, Publisher, or Editor (author) role in Appspace.
Basic Card Customizations
Please take note of the following when configuring the card:
- The card title is also the name used when saving the card to the Library. Therefore this is a mandatory field.
- The text editor is only displayed for each field when you click and type in the field (Title, Headline, Summary). It provides basic text editing capabilities such as font size, font style, text alignment, and text color.
- You can add images to the card by browsing the Library for existing content. You can also upload, or drag and drop an image directly into the image placeholder, from a folder in your computer. However, you may only upload one image to the image placeholder.
- The color picker, enables color selection for text and backgrounds in the card. The first two characters in the Hex color code is the transparency value, while the next six characters are the color values. Please be mindful when including a custom Hex color code.
Create and Configure RSS Card
Follow the instructions below to create and configure the card:
- Log in to the Appspace console.
- Click the QUICK ACTION menu on the top-right and select Create Card, and proceed to step 4 below. Or click Library from the Appspace menu navigation bar on the left, and proceed to step 3 below.
- Select the desired folder in the library, and click the ADD button, and select Create Card.
- Select RSS from the Filter by template menu, and select a desired card template.
- Enter in the RSS feed URL in the address field on the card. If authentication is required, check the Requires Authentication checkbox, and fill in the required credentials. NoteSupported RSS formats: RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, mRSS, Atom 1.0
- Select the Feed Item Duration to set the number of seconds each content is displayed before the next within the feed.
- Select the Display Options for the RSS feed:
- Enable Transition – Display a transition between feed content. Selected by default.
- Enable Custom Logo – Allows users to upload a custom logo for company branding.
- Show RSS Media – Display media content from the RSS feed. Selected by default.
- Show RSS Summary – Display the content summary from the RSS feed. Selected by default.
- Show RSS Date – Display the content date from the RSS feed. Selected by default.
- Hide Low Resolution Media – Display only high resolution content from the RSS feed.
- Keep Aspect Ratio – Display the content in its original aspect ratio from the RSS feed.
Additional customization options are available when the following displays options are selected:- Select Enable Transition to configure the transition effects and color:
- Transition Effect
- Transition Color 1
- Transition Color 2
- Select Enable Custom Logo to upload a custom logo.
- Select Show RSS Date to configure the Date Format.
- Select Enable Transition to configure the transition effects and color:
- The following customization options are available:
- Use a custom font.
- Customize the card Text Color
- Customize the card Background Color or Media.
- Once customizations have been made, click Next.
- In the Save tab, enter in the Title, as this is a mandatory field. Optionally, you may enter in the Article, Caption, Content Expiry, Content Tags and even upload a custom thumbnail for the content.
- Click Save to complete, and you may now proceed to add the card into a playlist channel.
