This article provides the instructions to create, organize, and publish a collection of cards, images, and videos as a playlist channel.


  • Account Owner or Publisher role in Appspace. 

Create Playlist Channel

To create a playlist channel, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click Channels from the ☰ Appspace menu.
  2. Click the CREATE button and select Playlist Channel.
  3. Enter the name of the playlist channel.
  4. In the Edit tab, click the ADD CONTENT button to add content or folders to the playlist.
    If you are unable to see the Add Content button, please contact your administrator. An administrator must give you access to a common library in your user group.
  5. You may select the desired content from the Library, create a card, or upload a single content or a folder with multiple content. Once selected, click Add.
  6. Once content has been added to the playlist, you may arrange the order of the content to be displayed, by clicking the Sort drop-down menu, and selecting one of the options below:
    • Name – Sorts the playlist content by alphabetical order based on the filename. 
    • Updated – Sorts the playlist content based on the last updated content.
    • Shuffle – Sorts the playlist content in a randomized order. Content from various folders may be displayed back to back.
    • Custom – Customize the sort order by moving content up or down on the playlist.
      Click the Total Duration of Playlist link to open the Playlist Playout Properties.
  7. Click Playout Properties to configure the playout properties for each added content.

    You may configure the following playback options for the selected content or folder:

    • Transition
    • Aspect Ratio
    • Content Duration
    • Schedule
    • Frequency Restrictions (new)
    • Dayparting (new
    • Tag Rules (new)

  8. Click Save.
  9. Click the Preview tab to preview the playlist channel as how the content would be displayed on the device.

  10. Click the Settings tab to configure the settings, permissions, and publisher approvals for this channel.
    • In the Overview tab, you can:
      • Edit the Name of the playlist channel.
      • Enter in a Caption for the playlist channel.
      • Assign a Channel Group to playlist channel.
      • Change the Location of the playlist channel.
      • Determine the Employee App Mode of the playlist channel:
        • Feed (default) – Content within the playlist channel will be displayed in a feed.
        • Carousel – Content within the playlist channel will be played in a loop, similar to device playback.
      • Delete the playlist channel.
      • Upload a custom image, or select an icon or color for the playlist channel.
        Custom thumbnail images should ideally have a 16:9 aspect ratio for the best display results.
    • In the Permissions tab, you can choose to configure the permission type for this channel:
      With the new Channel permissions update in Appspace 8.0 ac.29, please ensure that the user has been assigned with the Author use role, before assigning the permissions for the user.
      • Publisher: A publisher will have full read, write, and delete access to this channel. A user with publisher access can change, edit content, and update settings for this channel.
        Some users are automatically added as a publisher when they inherit the full access from the account, network, or user group. Clicking on the user that was automatically added, will provide more information on the inheritance.
      • Editors: An editor can only edit and manage the content in this channel, based on the approval rules applied to the channel in the Approvals tab (below).
    • In the Approvals tab, you can select the actions that require approval from the publisher of this channel. These approval rules are then applied to a channel editor.

  11. Click the Publish tab to determine the Devices or Users that can access this channel by selecting the devices, device groups, users, or user groups.

  12. Click Save to publish.
