- As there are a significant number of devices running the operating systems we support and a range of manufacturing standards, we can only assure the compatibility of the OS and the firmware versions that we actively test, as listed on this page.
- Reference models are device models that Appspace has tested upon in our product engineering lab.
- You may use devices that have similar specifications to the reference models listed, however, we recommend you work with a systems integrator or an Appspace reseller to ensure the target devices are suitable for your deployment type and specific use case. If you do not have such a partner, please contact us and we’ll be happy to make some introductions.
Appspace, a scalable, enterprise-grade, cloud-based SaaS platform, enables the publishing and distribution of content to thousands of endpoint devices paired with our easy-to-use HTML5-based Appspace app. The app is presented with a customizable theme and an intuitive interface that is clickable with a mouse, remote control, or touch screen. The Appspace app is able to display content with high levels of broadcast and picture quality for various workplace experiences such as digital signage, space reservations, employee experience, and visitor management.
We currently have three app categories, catered for the following:
- Appspace for employeesThe Appspace Employee App, an Appspace app for employee communication, is available on Android and iOS mobile devices, or via our web portal. Employees may browse and view corporate content published to them or their user groups, or use the app to reserve rooms, desks, or designated workspaces at the office, or book a building pass to a building or campus area with restricted access. The Appspace Employee App is only supported on public/private cloud.
- Appspace for devicesThe Appspace App for industry-standard devices is supported on a multitude of operating systems and device platforms such as Chrome OS, Android, iOS, BrightSign, Cisco, Crestron, and such, that meet different use cases including playback performance, physical dimensions, hardware features, content delivery modes (streaming or caching), and workplace experiences. There are several different terminologies used throughout the industry that imply a device, such as a media player, media streamer, mini-PC, set-top box, TV box, or IPTV box. They are all essentially the same. The Appspace App for devices is ideal for various workplace experiences including:
-
- digital signage for single-display TV, multiple screens, video walls, or system on chip (SOC) TVs.
- room scheduling systems on tablets with touch-screen enabled or widescreen TVs.
- touch-screen kiosks for wayfinding, visitor registration, and employee directories.
- enterprise TV live streams. Most of these industry-leading media devices have their own internal storage, hence content from Appspace is cached.
-

Strengths:
-
-
- The Collaboration Endpoint devices are already in place as they are used for video conferencing. The Appspace integrations bring additional features to existing infrastructure to enhance corporate communication.
- The Appspace integrations do not interfere with Cisco functionality.
- Appspace does not just change the wallpaper but provides the end-user with a lot of the features that are traditionally available only on digital signage devices, like the ability to schedule content, use Alerts and create good-looking content by leveraging Appspace Cards.
- To make it easier for Cisco device administrators to access Appspace content, Appspace and Cisco are offering another integration, which will enable Cisco users to access the Appspace content management system directly via the Webex Control Hub, to display engaging digital signage and/or interactive content when the device is not in use as a videoconferencing tool.
-
Challenges:
-
-
- Constantly streaming content may increase bandwidth usage. Check out our Managing Bandwidth in Appspace guide for help.
- Currently, the Collaboration Endpoint device integration requires an external Appspace App supported device, known as a caching device, which is responsible for uploading the content to the endpoints. The caching device needs to access the Appspace Cloud and be on the same local network as the endpoints (for CE 9.8 and earlier only).
- Mass registration requires a desktop tool developed by Cisco to install the macro (for CE 9.8 and earlier only).
-
Summary:
-
-
- The Cisco Collaboration Endpoints are purpose-built for conference rooms. The wallpaper is a secondary feature, hence, content should be limited to using images and cards only. Alternately turn on Signage Mode.
- Other than a few Appspace App supported devices that are responsible for the content sync in Collaboration Endpoint devices (for CE 9.8 and earlier only), there is no new hardware investment necessary as the display devices are already in place.
