Create YouTube card

This article provides the instructions to creating a YouTube card.


An improved YouTube card is made available on July 2019, The YouTube card is now an Appspace Supported card, which will be periodically updated by Appspace with new templates and features.

Existing YouTube card templates (prior to this release) which were categorized as Community Cards will be removed from the Appspace console.

You can now embed an external YouTube video into the card, and customize the playback options.

  • Cards are only supported on devices with the Appspace App. To ensure your device is compatible, please refer to the Supported Card Types section in the Compare device media player capabilities article.

  • Legacy devices are not supported.

Create Card

Follow the instructions below to create and configure a YouTube card:

  1. Click the Quick Actions menu on the top right and select Create Card, and proceed to step 3 below.

    Or click Library from the Appspace Menu navigation bar on the left, and proceed to step 2 below.

  2. Select the desired folder in the library, and click the ADD button, and select Create Card.

  3. Select YouTube from the Filter by template menu, and select a desired card template.

  4. Enter in the Youtube URL or playlist link in the address field.

  5. You may make the following customizations:

    • Set the maximum video resolution.
    • Customize the playback behavior of the video.
      • Show loading splash
      • Loop continuously

  6. Click Next.

  7. Fill in the Title, as this is a mandatory field. Optionally, you may fill in the Article, Caption, Content Expiry, Content Tags and even upload a custom thumbnail for the content.

  8. Click the Save button.

Technical Limitation & Workaround

When the audio does not play during YouTube video playback on the card, it may be due to the policy settings on web browsers, where audio is blocked during video playback.

We recommend setting the autoplay policy to allow audio when using the following browsers:




  • Navigate to Menu > Preferences > Privacy & Security, and scroll down to the Permissions section. Click the “Autoplay” Settings button and select “Allow Audio and Video” as the default for all websites. More information here:
