1.14 Release Notes


This release note describes the new major build for Appspace App v1.14.

New Features and Enhancements

General

  • Appspace App supports selected sort order for content items in a channel, which is predetermined in the Appspace console, allowing content items to be sorted accordingly when displayed in Channels.
  • Removed loading icon for cached images and videos, for seamless playback.
  • Removed animation fade duration when launching the search menu in channels.

Android

  • Support for user mode and device mode.
  • Support for Cards.
  • Support for the following device tasks:
    • Change default log level
    • Retrieve logs
  • Support for touch gestures, however the pinch-zoom function has been disabled.
  • Device Menu can be accessed via touch pattern.
  • Device Info screen displays storage, memory, and CPU usage information allowing users to check device resources used at the time.
  • The Appspace App for mobile’s registration screen allows users to switch from User mode (default) to Device mode, when the installation device is detected as a mobile phone or tablet.
  • Support for portrait and landscape display orientation in Interactive Mode.
    • The Display.Rotation property supported values are 0, 90, 180, 270.
    • When defined, the Display.Rotation property will be applied to both Signs and Interactive Mode.
    • If the property is removed, the device maintains the last rotation value.
    • The Display.Rotation property does not take effect during a live channel update.
  • ‘Authentication Required’ pop-ups will not be displayed when viewing authenticated web URLs.

iOS

  • Support for user mode and device mode.
  • Support for Cards.
  • Support for the following device tasks:
    • Change default log level
    • Retrieve logs
  • Support for touch gestures, however the pinch-zoom function has been disabled.
  • Device Menu can be accessed via touch pattern.

BrightSign

  • Support for additional BrightSign devices as below:
    • HD223 Standard I/O Player
    • HD1023 Expanded I/O Player
    • LS423 Standard I/O Player
  • The following device tasks can be executed for the BrightSign HD and LS series players as these devices do not support IR capabilities.
    • Resync
    • Restart
    • Reset Content
    • Unregister
    • Device Info
  • Appspace App can automatically be updated to the latest version on supported BrightSign devices, by setting the ‘software.software.updates’ property to TRUE. The update only occurs when the App version is above v1.30, and below the latest version.

Resolved Escalations

  • AE-3012 - Videos transcoded by Cisco MXE 3500, freezes on the last frame during playback on the BrightSign XT1143.
  • AE-3099 - Memory leakage on Chromebit, causes video to freeze.
  • AE-3218 - The Media Container widget displays the thumbnail instead of the actual image in Chromebox.

Known Issues

Android

  • Appspace App for Android does not support silent registration via local or network policy file.
  • Appspace App for Android does not support Flash (.swf) content.
  • The System.RebootEvents player property has been configured to reload the page instead of rebooting the device, due to an Android policy that does not allow apps to restart devices. User must manually restart the device.

iOS

  • Appspace App for iOS does not support silent registration via local or network policy file.
  • Appspace App for iOS does not support Flash (.swf) content.
  • The System.RebootEvents player property has been configured to reload the page instead of rebooting the device, due to iOS policies that does not allow apps to restart devices. User must manually restart the device, or use the Mobile Device Management (MDM) as an alternative to either restart the device or restart the application.
  • To enable Appspace App to restart itself, launch the Appspace App in Kiosk mode, by enabling Guided Access via Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access.
  • Appspace App crashes to the Home screen after more than 10 hours of playing a playlist containing 18 cards (both Announcement and Community cards).
  • The display orientation can only be displayed in one landscape or portrait view.
    • If the Display.Rotation player property = 0 or 180, App is displayed in landscape (left.
    • If the Display.Rotation player property = 90 or 270, App is displayed in portrait.

BrightSign

  • BrightSign devices on firmware 6.2.94 will reboot when close captioning is enabled on media zone properties. This issue has already been resolved by BrightSign on firmware 6.2.107 and 6.1.76.4.
  • The Appspace App receives the incorrect BrightSign package when user downgrades using the BrightSign updater.
  • User is redirected back to the Welcome page instead of the Device Name page, when the Sign-in page times out during device registration.
