Installing the Appspace App on Universal Windows Platform

This article provides instructions to configure and register Universal Windows Platform based devices with the Appspace App.


Client System Requirements

The table below lists the minimum system requirements of the desktop PC or notebook to run Appspace App.

Prerequisites

  • The device must meet the manufacturer’s minimum hardware and technical specifications, as well as the Appspace App’s minimum requirements. Please refer to Appspace App requirements.

  • An active Appspace account, with sufficient User IDs for user mode, or Device IDs for device mode.

  • An active Internet connection.

  • A USB keyboard for activation.


Install Appspace App

Follow the instructions below to download and install the Appspace App:

  1. Launch the Windows Store from your device, and search for Appspace App.

  2. Select the Appspace App, and click the Get button.


  3. Once installed, the Appspace App is visible in Windows.


  4. You can launch the Appspace App in the following modes:

    • Desktop Mode

      1. Click the Appspace App icon to launch the app.

    • Tablet Mode

      1. Configure the UWP device to run in Tablet mode by following the instructions in the Use your PC like a tablet article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17210/windows-10-use-your-pc-like-a-tablet


      2. Once in tablet mode, click on the Appspace App icon to launch the app.


    • Kiosk Mode

      1. Configure the UWP device to run in Kiosk mode by following the instructions in the Set up a Kiosk on Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, or Education article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/windows/manage/set-up-a-kiosk-for-windows-10-for-desktop-editions

        Note

        Select the Appspace App when choosing an app for Assigned access.


      2. Once the kiosk configuration is complete, log out and login using the Kiosk credentials. The Appspace App will launch automatically.

      Note

      To access the Device menu in Kiosk mode, press Alt + Tab, or touch the screen first to ensure the Appspace App is active. Next press Ctrl + Alt + M to bring up the Device menu.


  5. Once Appspace App is launched, register your device using one of the many options listed in the Introduction to registering a device with the Appspace App article.


Install Appspace App via Sideload Apps

Note

You may install the App using this method if you are unable to download the App from the Windows Store.

Important

Follow the instructions below to download, and install the Appspace App.

  1. Navigate to System > Downloads, and download the Appspace App for UWP client (win10uwp-files-prod.zip) to your device.

  2. Once downloaded, extract the win10uwp-files-prod.zip file.

  3. Double-click the Appspace.App.Windows10_1.18.0.0_x86_x64_ARM.appxbundle file, and click Install.


  4. Once installation is complete, launch Appspace App via the Windows menu, and register your device using one of the many options listed in the Introduction to registering a device with the Appspace App article.


Install Appspace App via Windows PowerShell

Note

You may install the App using this method if you are unable to download the App from the Windows Store.

Important

Follow the instructions below to download, and install the Appspace App.

  1. Navigate to System > Downloads, and download the Appspace App for UWP client (win10uwp-files-prod.zip) to your device.

  2. Once downloaded, extract the win10uwp-files-prod.zip file.

  3. Right-click the Add-AppDevPackage.ps1 file, and select Run with PowerShell.


  4. Once installation is complete, switch back to Sideload apps mode.


  5. Launch Appspace App via the Windows menu, and register your device using one of the many options listed in the Introduction to registering a device with the Appspace App article.


Unable to register

If the Appspace App is unable to register your desktop PC or notebook, your firewall may be blocking outbound connections of the Appspace App.

Follow the instructions below to configure the firewall and re-register your computer:

  1. Launch the Windows Firewall from the Windows Control Panel.

  2. Click Advanced Settings.

  3. Select Outbound Rules on the left. You should be able to see a list of installed Windows Apps.

  4. Right-click Appspace from the list and select Properties.


  5. In the Appspace Properties window, select the General tab.

  6. Select Allow the connection in the Action section, and click OK.


  7. Launch Appspace App, and register your device using one of the many options listed in the Introduction to registering a device with the Appspace App article.


Update Appspace App

Appspace App is automatically updated by default on Universal Windows Platform devices. However, if the app does not update, please follow the instructions to enable automatic updates in the following Turn on automatic app updates article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15081/windows-turn-on-automatic-app-updates


Uninstall Appspace App
